DB Kingston Johnson Named FCB Athlete of the Week
Johnson recorded two interceptions, seven tackles, and a tackle for loss on Senior Night in the Indians 43-21 victory over Park Crossing.
WETUMPKA, Ala. — Wetumpka senior defensive back Kingston Johnson made his presence felt Thursday night, recording two interceptions to help lead the Indians to a 43-21 Senior Night victory over Park Crossing. His performance has earned him recognition as the First Community Bank Athlete of the Week.
Wearing No. 24, Johnson played a major role in a Wetumpka defensive effort that helped the Indians snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 5-3 on the season.
Johnson finished the night with seven total tackles, including six solo stops, one tackle for loss, and two interceptions. He also recorded 23 interception return yards and a pass breakup.
His first interception came late in the second quarter, giving Wetumpka an opportunity to extend its lead before halftime.
His second proved especially important.
With Wetumpka protecting a 36-21 advantage in the fourth quarter, Johnson intercepted another Park Crossing pass and returned it 23 yards, effectively ending the Thunderbirds' hopes of mounting a late comeback.
The turnover set up Wetumpka's final touchdown, a 61-yard pass from Karsen Tate to Andre Coward that sealed the 22-point victory.
Johnson's performance highlighted a defensive effort that forced three turnovers and held Park Crossing scoreless over the final quarter and a half.
For the senior, it was a fitting way to celebrate his final regular-season home game at the Wetumpka Sports Complex, delivering one of his strongest performances when the Indians needed it most.
